Pretty Ribbon!

by Equestriangradstudent

Abigail and I came home with a ribbon! We got eighth place. Not bad for our first Novice together, especially considering it was out of 24. We’ve still got a long way to go, but the pieces are starting to fit together.

Dressage was still not brilliant, but it was far better than Chatt. We managed a 40! The judge even said that Abs has “lovely potential.” I was much less tense, so even though Abs wasn’t as willing as I wanted, we weren’t fighting the entire time.

Since it was a one day, stadium was first and cross country was immediately after. Our stadium round was perfect, until I jumped fence 9B and forgot there was a fence 10. I pulled Abs up, patted her, then noticed fence 10. We were already almost past it, but we managed to jump it from a bizarre angle. No refusal, but four time faults. Oops. Cross country was great! We had a stop at the water. It was technically a shuffle sideways, but because we shuffled for five feet it was recorded as a stop. Oh well. The rest of the course rode wonderfully! There were a couple of good questions that I was worried about when I walked it, but everything was so easy! Even with our stop, we were almost thirty seconds under time. We’ll have to be careful next time.

Our next event is Five Points. We’re running Novice again, trying to smooth out the wrinkles. After that is Virginia, where we’ll hopefully move up to Training!
