It’s my day off, and I just finished packing the trailer. Why? Because we’re driving to Aiken tonight. Why on earth are we driving to Aiken tonight? To school cross country tomorrow. We were going to leave tomorrow, but Bonnie (and by Bonnie I mean Bonnie Mosser!) decided we needed to do it early, which means driving down tonight. I’m excited, but I also really needed this day off. I won’t get one next week because…
Next week is Millbrook! I’m not competing, just grooming for Jess. She’s taking Bug Advanced. It will be his first Advanced since his injury, so she’s pretty nervous.
Anyway, I won’t get a day off next week because we have to drive up on Tuesday. I’m hoping that we’re leaving late enough for me to have a bit of a lie-in on my day off. It’s going to be a long drive to get there, though, so Jess will probably want to leave early.
It’s really not that upsetting. This is what I want to do, and the fact that I get to groom at one of the biggest events on the East coast is very exciting. The other working students don’t understand at all, but they’re just eighteen and fresh out of high school. They think their days off are sacred. Jordyn even told me, with typical black-girl attitude, that if it was her, she would demand a day off right after or refuse to go. I wanted to pat her on the head and tell her that life doesn’t work like that.
On a happier note, my boys are coming down this weekend! I think I’ve mentioned Kyle and Nate, but I can’t be sure. They’re students at the manor, graduating next month. They’re also my farriers. I love them.
