Focus on the Positives

I know I keep promising drama, but I just don’t have the energy to write about the stupid shit that goes on here. I will soon, I promise. For now, though, here are some good things that happened today:

I finally figured out how to handle Avery’s spooks. The trouble was that he didn’t really spook, he just violently jumped sideways then cantered off with stiff joints. Very uncomfortable, very hard to sit. Instead of anticipating and hoping he wouldn’t do it today, I just decided to ask for canter when I felt him start. We cantered for a good fifteen minutes (occasionally trotting for a few strides). It eventually became a beautiful, round canter and after I was able to get some very Fluid trot work. We had to go way back to basics (I rode him the way I ride Annie) but I think we’ll be able to do more after doing this for a bit. I don’t think I’ve ever been able to describe Ave as fluid!

Sam rode Sulley free in both directions! Sulley is the draft-Holsteiner cross that Sam got for free in January. Recently we had been free-lunging her in side reins, and last week Sam got on and rode her while I free-lunged. It was much Today was the first time she was able to change directions. You can read more about it here. There’s even video! Sulley is coming along so well! I’m definitely going to miss working with her.

That’s not every single good thing, but those are the two big things. My battery is dying, so I must go! I’m at Sam’s, using her internet, so the end of the battery means the end of the internet.
