Earlier today I posted something about starting a training routine to get my mare fit for the upcoming competition season. As I contemplated the options  have for getting her fit, I started thinking about my own fitness. Could I maintain my position in the gallop for eleven minutes right now? Probably not.

So it’s back to the gym for me. I’ve not been since my last fall off Studly. At first it was because I was in pain, but now it’s just become laziness and lack of motivation.  Tomorrow I’ll be getting up early and dragging myself to the gym. It’s not fair to make my horse work out if I don’t, right? We are partners in this sport, after all.

I’ve come up with a plan of sorts for Abs’ fitness. We’re going to incorporate trot and canter sets on the days I ride her in the big arena. Hopefully Faith doesn’t yell at me for it. I’m still not sure what to do about jumping at speed, but we’ll work something out. For now we’ll just work on building our stamina.

I’ve got my motivation now, preparing for this upcoming season. I didn’t get to show at all while I was a student here so I’m getting pretty excited to get back out into the real world. I’m not looking forward to all of the membership fees but it’ll be well worth the cost to be back out on cross country.

As an aside, I’ve decided that I need to start coming up with more relevant titles. Unfortunately, the current way I title my posts reflects the way I write them. A thought pops into my head, I plug in the title and then start writing. As I go, the topic changes (most of the time) but I don’t go back to change the title. Hmm.
